A new association representing investor interests formally launched Tuesday with a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

The Healthy Markets Association has been around since at least late 2014, but the group decided to hold its official unveiling to announce its founding members and discuss a new report about regulation. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) was scheduled to speak at the event.

The association describes itself as a 501(c)(6) organization with the mission of promoting "more robust, stable and fair markets for investors, not just traders."

The group hired Ty Gellasch as executive director in July. Gellasch previously was senior counsel to the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations as well as counsel to former Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.).
